Karol is unemployed. His wife Maria receives a parental allowance and takes care of seven children. The parents very often leave their 14-year old eldest son in charge of his siblings. He has to pay attention mainly to his little handicapped brother Matt. The younger children have never been to a paediatrician. Maria is pregnant again, but has not seen her gynaecologist yet.
We got this family involved in the project in order to help to change their way of thinking and of raising their kids. From the very beginning they were keen to cooperate, and happy with every piece of new information and advice they received.
Maria started getting prenatal care, she learned about how to ensure a healthy prenatal development of her baby. She paid more attention to what she ate. Both parents even started attending to little Matt more than before.
During meetings with other parents they learned to recognise symptoms of childhood diseases, play games, make home remedies. They also learned how to prepare healthy meals and got a basic knowledge of a healthy lifestyle.
While Maria was in hospital to give birth, Karol needed help. The family mediators were there to support him, providing guidance with domestic chores, cooking and hygiene. As he admitted himself, it was not easy to look after seven children.
Maria came back home with a new daughter, Malvina. Thanks to the project, both parents became stronger. With their new skills and knowledge of health, communication and raising children, they are now better prepared to raise another baby.
Support us so we can keep helping families to change their way of thinking and take responsibility for the raising of their children!
